Kenya Tree discoloration

I've heard that browning is normal during kenya growth, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. He's been browning in the one spot and has had those weird little 'wrinkles' for a few days now.

I was told when I picked the coral up, not to get my hopes up, the guy who had him originally said he couldn't quite get him to open up, and he wasn't sure if the tree was going to make it. In my tank he's been pretty happy and open, real pretty, but the cowrie I have is really agitating him today. The Cowrie has been picking at the edges and is eating the brown a little bit.

So, normal browning or is he dying off?

the stringy gunk on the top of the coral is my fault from overfeeding, it's all over the place.

IMO, it's dying. Hard to kill a Kenya though. What's your salinity. Any other corals in the tank? If so, how are they doing?

Good news is, I've nuked my tank, had a Anemone die and crashed a tank, heater failures, and a lot of other things go wrong, and the Kenya's always seem like the first thing to come back. So don't stress to much

Also, not to familiar with the cowrie, but I have read mixed feelings on reef safe or not. Hopefully you less impulsive then me and did your research before purchase.

aside from knocking corals off rocks the cowrie hasn't bothered anyone. I see him run corals over all the time and haven't seen him eat any of them.

salinity is 1.025, i have a couple corals, leathers, rics, gsp and zoas and they're all fine.

That's what a ****ed off kenya looks like. If I touch mine he does that. IME the browning is not normal. Something is not right.

But honestly you might be better off without. Kenyas IME are very prolific growers, very aggressive & spread by shedding little branches all over that **** off everyone in the tank.

If they don't get enough light they are an ugly brown-tan color. If it gets alot of light mine is a more appealing purple w/ fluorescent green "sheen", but I'm still thinking about getting rid of mine.

The browning is most likely just algae growth. Once the coral sheds it will disappear.
