Kessil a150w to replace 250w halide?

I want to replace my 250w MH at some point with LED.

I have noticed many people running the kessil a150w, and that the company is possibly making an a350 to come out soon.

I really like the convenience of the fixture on its gooseneck tank mount.

They must emit much less heat than a 250w metal halide, right?

Would two of these replace my 250w halide? And, it seems like people either go with the sky blue color or mix the sky blue and ocean blue. I could do one of each.
 
Same boat. Tagging along. Tank is 36X24X24. I'm thinking two would cover my length, my only question is the depth.
 
the kessil a150W is about 30 watts of LED power. IMO it is a great substitute for its namesake, a 150W halide. It is not a substitute for a 250W halide.

After using them on a couple setups I would agree with the statement above. Great light but I wouldnt equate it to a 250w halide.
 
Same. I tried using a Kessil instead of the 250 W MH and was not successful. The SPS corals in the tank faded after about a week under the Kessil. Lost my green slimer. Returning the MH bought back the color. It's a good, high quality fixture used in the appropriate application.

Edited as I just noticed you said two units. This would likely work well depending on the depth and coverage area. Good luck. If you try it out, post some feedback.

For internal tests on monorad, they were using 6 x A150W vs 1000W of MH or HPS for their horticultural grow tests. So under the most optimistic, controlled conditions run by the company themselves you're looking at about 166W equivalence. Also - that's in terms of yield from plant, not total light output - though they were usually much better than the controls in yield.
 
If you look at the Kessil thread and the PAR readings from the fixture, it would have to be a very poor 150 watt setup to get that low of PAR numbers. These are great little fixtures but they are not magical. I like them a lot and see great things coming from the mfg in the future, but let's not lose sight of reality, there is already enough of that with LED's right now.
 
i am looking on my replacing my 4 bulb t5 fixture with 4 a150w ( two first then two more over three monts span) ive never had mh lighting but i would also figure the fixture itself and the bulb has alot to do with output, not just the watt type 150 or 250 or 400.
what i mean is i run a 4 ati bulb aquaticlife t5 fixture and i know very well that the same bulbs with an ati t5 fixture would be alot more efficient because ati fixture are far better fixtures. so when comparing 2 kessil a150w to a 4 bulb t5 fixture, i think the brand of the fixture and bulbs in the fixture would be the number one difference in comparison.
 
They do generate much less heat than a MH. With two covering the same area as the MH you should be okay. You may want to wait for the A350 though. It may prove more cost effective to get one of those instead of 2 A150's. I have two over a 120 and it is sufficient for the LPS and RBTA I have but I will be adding more in the future to accommodate a clam near the bottom.
 
How would 2 units over a 65g,75g,90g be with SPS towards the top with zoas and mushsrooms towards the bottom? 75g is 21" tall and 65g and 90g are both 25" tall. Factor in say a 4" sand bed and you have height ranges of 17"-21".

Where are you in pittsburgh? I would like to see how they cover a 120. What color do you have?
