Getting a lot of mix reviews about intensity settings.

Some Reef Central helpfuls have told me they go all the way up to 95 percent to 100 percent..

LFS telling me to keep it at 45 percent or below because it will cause bleaching.

I'm trying to find a really good setting for my bubble tip anemones to grow and be happy. I currently have 4 and I want to add at least 3 more

It's an acclimation issue. So. depending upon what you had been using, a period of acclimation is useful. Where you end up in terms of total percent is a function of what you are keeping and the height of the water column. I recently added these lights to my tank and started with a ramping program that peaked at 60%. I've had a little bit of SPS STN, which may or may not be related to the new lights.

I currently have a K A 360 W over a 30 Gal SPS frag tank and run the Blue @ 100% and the White @ 75% and they love it for 12 hours on / off per day No bleaching when I put new corals in. I just put them on the outer edge before moving to the center of tank.

not on SPS or most LPS. Might be too strong for soft corals. But a Nem, I'd be at least 75 % and maybe 100%
.

i just added a hammerhead, galaxia and frogspawn. should i watch out for bleaching?

do you guys think ramping throughout the day works? i see some peopel just turn the lights on and then turn them off and some people ramp so that its like a daytime/nighttime spectrum.

I run 3 A-360WE over a 26" deep, six foot long 155 gallon. I ramp them up using an Apex, and go to full 100% on both channels from 2pm-6pm. It then ramps down. While I do not have very much in the way of large colonies yet, I do have a large frogspawn on the bottom of the tank, and a smaller hammer about 6" up, and neither shows any distress from the light at that depth. I have a frags of pocillopora and two acros that are on the top level of my rock (about 6-8" from the surface) and am seeing good growth and color with the lights.

I run 1 A360WE over a 20g tall. I only have LPS so I can't comment on what you would need for an anemone, I max my intensity at 45% and color at 70%. The I have a torch and a frogspawn probably 8" down from the surface (and the light itself is about 8-10" above the waterline), and they seem to be doing good so far, about 3 months in.

As for a ramp effect, I have an Apex, and I use the stock Season Table to determine the on/off times. I ramp up for 1 hour (dawn) from 0% color and 11% intensity (which is just before the light turns on), to 25% color and 25% intensity. I then ramp for 3 hours (sunrise) to 70% color and 45% intensity...which is then held until 2.5 hours before the sun sets, which is a 3 hour ramp (sunset) back to 25% both color/intensity, and then another 1 hour ramp (dusk) down to 0% color and 11% intensity. Therefore my sunset goes until 1/2 hour after the "sun" goes down.

Is this anything more than a nice visual or does it help the corals? I don't know. I like to think its more natural and doesn't shock the corals as much, but I really can't say I can back that claim up.

thanks for the reply!

Im using the Kessil Controller since an APEX was a little bit more expensive and I didnt need it to control anything else i owned. I'm running a 30 gallon. My Kessil sits on the gooseneck at 90 degrees 7 inches from the surface of the water, and its 23 inches from the TOP of my coral. I have the 3 new corals on the substrate of my tank with the plug it came on dug in. Have yo u seen any signs of bleaching running at max?

I like keeping my lights on at night. Since my tank is in the corner of my family room there's no direct sunlight in that room, especially if i have the shades closed.

Like I mentioned before my frogspawn and hammer are sitting about 23 inches from the surface, im not sure either if running the lights at full intensity for the nems would be good for my coral. I need to find a balance I suppose.

Keep in mind I have only two small frags up very top, and two plating montipora about midway down, then the ones I mentioned on the sand. But no, no ill effects at all. If you gradually acclimate them to the lights (move them up a little bit at a time until you have them mounted where you want them) I would think you won't, either. But your mileage may vary!
