Kessil vs Reefbreeder/Everglow

I'm looking to redo the lights on a 150g 60x24x24 and was looking at two 24" reefbreeders or the same coverage with Kessil A360 lights. I may need 3 Kessils so it would be more expensive. Do you feel that there are significant differences in color and growth that would justify the price difference?

Your biggest difference is the Kessil will have 2/3 big light sources, while the RB will have ~80 small light sources. The Kessil should blend color better than the RB, but may have harsher shadows. Try and find someone with each light type and decide which look you like more.

I'm adding a kessil a360we to my 4ft tank tomorrow. I currently have a 24" reef breeders which I will move to the left side of the tank while I place the Jessie on the right. I have a thread talking about this. I also have 2 supplemental t5s on this system. Follow my thread for my feedback.

I think I'm going to go with two 24" photon lights from Reefbreeders or maybe a single 48". I can supplement with T5 if I need to.

IMO Kessil look a lot nicer, but reefbreeder may grow better.

I have 3 Kessils over my 180 mixed reef, they seem to grow everything fine, from softies, to sps however I also have a 40 gallon anemone tank plumbed into it with a reefbreeder value fixture over it. There is just a carpet anemone and some softy frags but the GSP fragged from the 180 has actually overtaken it size wise. Zoos and palys seem to grow great as well. The carpet anemone was bleached but has regained its colour. I am really surprised these fixtures are as nice as they are. The Kessil just looks better though.

When I upgrade my tank to an 8 footer I will likely go with 4 Kessils and 3-4 reefbreeders.

i have a question about the kessil, do you have to manually adjust your lighting to actinic blue and then back to white everyday or can you time it?

I have run both and found the kessil to be a better light overall with both looks and growth. The one problem being shadowing with the kessils. I solved that by adding some T5's and loved it while it was up and running. Unfortunately I had to take the tank down shortly after but plan on doing something similar with the new kessil ap700 and a t5 on each side.

I finally saw kessils in person at lfs that has kessils, radions, black box LEDs and I had reefbreeders on my tank currently running halides with radiums. If I were to consider going back to led I would go kessil without the bat of an eye......IMO of course.....

The shimmer is intense but I loved it and when I heard people say that on here I thought how could it be any different than my halides, it is by a factor of a lot.

I have both lights, I have the proton 48 which is a great light, then I also have the Kessils 160we tuna blue. I like them both but for appearance and color it's Kessils all the way. My next lights will be the 360we

I have 2 x 32" photons over my 180. They replaced 3 x 400 MH + 4 x 80 watt T5s CEBU fixture. Growth/color/PE with ReefBreeders has been exceptional -- at 1/10th the watts used by CEBU fixture. Service is even more exceptional. Do what you can to a RB fixture; Logan will have it back to you fully functioning within a week. I've tried other LED lights, but ReefBreeder lights are IMO and IME the best.

I returned the 360we after a couple days. It wasn't wven close to lighting up half of my 75 gallon to my liking. Shimmer was beautiful, color was great, but I couldn't justify needing at least two more. Returned the kessil, traded my reefbreeders + $100 for 2x lumenbright pendants and icecap electronic ballasts. Even with tired Phoenix 14k bulbs color is amazing and my SPS has more growth regions in tips after a week. Extremely excited for m radium 20k bulbs to show up. Tank stays 80F with or without the lights on and my office only heats up 1-2 degrees after 8 hours of the lights on.

Glad to be in the MH club.
