I went tonight and picked up my new tank from Mark96, thanks Mark! I'm excited to get this going and I think I can have it built with water before Logiktest (Mike) even gets his 10 gallon cycled. Here are a few pics, I have some cleaning to do. I will have some question's about sump setup and stand ideas I have another day.

thats a lot of tank...

I think he just put a really tiny shoe in front of a fancy 20 long.

HAHA I wish it weighed what a 20 long does! I smashed my hand under it when we put it down. Amazingly we got it in and downstairs with 3 people not easy. I'm going to build the stand out of 2x6's and I have a neat idea for the cap. My first question is this, I'm going to get a GEO 618 calcium reactor will I need to have this above my sump? If so how far above the sump will it need to be?

Thanks Chad. Reason I asked is because all or most of my equipment will be in the tank stand. Being that the tank is 7 ft and the sump is only 4 ft I should have plenty of room for a reactor. I am gonna start off with my in sump tunze 9010 and later switch to a bigger in sump skimmer.

Thanks reeferG. Yeah I think I'm just going to build the stand and get a nice fresh water and vinegar soak to go through the whole thing and then get my hands wet. It's funny how your tank can look great with water in it, and the second you empty it it looks a mess.

Good deal! Glad you are on the road to an awesome display!

What kind of tank are you going to make of it?

It will be a mixed reef, looking like it will lean more to the SPS side though. I have a lot of planning to do as far as stand building cap building, aquascaping etc. I want to do this as best I can. My main reason for going this big was my preference of fish though, I love my Valmingi and my Tusk as well as some other nig ones that will be added to the list. Well I guess 41 different types of corals are also beginning to loose space in my 75.

How much flow should I put through this tank with my return pump? I was thinking along the lines of 1000gph. Also how long can an aqarium sit without water before you have to worry about the seams being in jeopardy of getting weak? Probably a dumb question but I have heard so many different answers to it.

4-5 times per hour is plenty. Do the rest of the flow with powerheads or closed loops.

I'm in no way being nasty with this but as far as measuring head I assume I would start from the bottom of the sump to the outputs or top of the overflows in the tank.

Yeah, from the pump to the top of the overflow. The head pressure usually doesn't add up to that much. There is a calculator on RC for head pressure.

I may have found my pump. It's a Quiet One 4000 high head retails for $102, and runs on 50 watts. At 5 ft of head it pushes 750gph. I have been looking at these pumps for a while now but I did'nt realize they use so little wattage with such a high flow rate it uses less wattage than a lot of other nicer pumps. I have been hearing good things about them as well.

Man, I thought we had a new member.

If you are going to spend that much and want internal I would spend a little more and get an eheim, you won't be disappointed! Or, if you want to go external, I can give you my Iwaki WMD-40RLT (Japanese motor) for the $100 your gonna spend on that quiet one. Retails $260 ish

I was trying to stay away from external due to space issues. I looked at the eheims but they don't have one that I saw pushes as much water. The 1262 only does 900 gph and at 5 ft of head it's pushing the same as the quiet one but it has 30 more watts of power and $40 more in cost.
