I hear key largo is the place to go for reef snorkeling/scuba...

I am planning a trip mid march and will be there for a day. Anyone know of any companies or beaches and what-not that would be good to check out for tours?

Any info would be MUCH appreciated..

Right in key Largo is John Pennycamp state park, they run snorkle trips out to the reef all day. There are lots of private company dive boats out of Key Largo area also.

You really should do the SS Spiegel Grove. I dove it before it was turned upright into it's originally intended position. Now that it is in its proper position it is reported to be an excellent dive. The SS Oriskany(sp?) was just sunk recently. That also may be in the same area.

How about just snorkeling sites... I'm not scuba certified, and from what I know, you can't dive without certification? And I don't know if I can/have time to get that b4 vacation... I really know nothing about SCUBA besides the fact that you need a register and air tanks and those cute flippers and mask.. LOL

Most of the dive shops do snorkling also. I've dove with Capt. Slates and there were snorklers with us. You really should try to get certified before you go. As soon as you get out to the reefs you'll wish you had.

going to the keys and not diving is insane. but what ever floats your boat. Slate is one of the best shops to go with, he has been around for the longest and with good reason. If you can be there on a friday and go to the creature feature. Usually Slate himself will go and hand feed baracudas, moray eels, nurse sharks, and a goliath grouper called bruiser. If not most snorkling trips go to the northern dry rocks which is where the christ of the abyss is, also know as christ of the deep and my favorite touchdown jesus. If you have the time and money inquire about discover scuba diving, it usually can be done in a day, and although you dont get certified at least you can see the action from up close. best of luck.

The Oriskany is off of Pensacola.
Also the dive operator at Pennekamp offers snorkel only trips.

The reefs off Key Largo are from 1 foot to about 20 feet deep, no need for scuba at all.
