Have family coming to Miami and the keys in June, would love to hear your recomendations for the best or great people to go out snorkeling with out in the keys, they will be staying in key west for about a week.

Also, any hotel recomendations in key west for them?

Thanks!

Some of the nicer reefs to dive/snorkel in the keys are in Largo around the Pennecamp area...but if your in key west I'd go snorkel Looe Key..there's a bazillion charters in Largo and a handful that are in Looe. Ive been on Looe Key Dive Center's boat as well as underseas, Largo I've used rainbow reef, quiescence...had a good experience with all

+1 on snorkeling in the upper keys. As far as key west hotels we went in October and stayed at the sheridan suites beach, not the marina one. Loved it. Great place away from the strip. They have a shuttle, but they are across the street from the best beach down there. You can walk to a couple different piers to fish or take the shuttle dwtn. I was able to catch 5 different species of fish with a bucktail at the beach/ jetties with little effort. We plan on staying there again.

I go to key largo several times a year and stay at key largo Hilton. They always upgrade us to a nice water view room. Always do Pennekamp for our snorkel or kayaking trips. Fairly close to the hotel.

+1 to that I stayed there as well and loved it. A stones throw from the beach.

Thanks for the great feed back, I appreciate it. They are really excited, they live in Los Angeles so they don't get to do things like this ever.

If they go in Key Largo, check out the Rainbow Reef Shop. Imo, they are the absolute best in Key Largo. Top notch service, equipment and just all around nice people.

If you want to spend a truly awesome day exploring and snorkeling, take one of the day trips to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. There are at least two ferry services from Key West plus a sea plane. The fort is amazing and there are spectacular views from the upper level. You can snorkel around the moat and the old pier pilings. The last time I was there, the pier pilings were surrounded by schools of bait fish and there were large tarpon, jacks and snapper feeding on them. There are also several very large goliath grouper that call the docks home, along with all kinds of tropical fish. If the weather is nice, it is definitely worth the trip.
