Keys snorkling...

I want to go Monday… so let me hear of some places where it is nice to visit. Not looking to go into the DEEP end, so anything around 5-10 feet would be fine. I plan to collect stuff while I’m snorkeling as well. TIA :D

Hey, Eric, Brian told me there is place around Bahia Honda which is about 30 miles south of John Pennekamp. The first right after the bridge. I went to Pennekamp last time and it was a blast. The only thing were that I can't collect anything because it's a protected area. I am planning to go to that place soon. Let me know how it went if you do decide to go there.

Gary

I've been search the old threads looking for any info on where to collect and snorkle.

Still waiting for the pros who have done this before to chime on in!! I just don't want to go out on a boat to go find a reef... something right off the shore.

I'll keep you posted Gary, don't worry about that. :)

Eric you best bet is to talk to Andrea.....She knows all the hot spots.......I was down there several weeks ago just past Bahia Honda bridge.....1st right...there is a little cove nice for collecting snail....and just across the street Andrea told me you could pick up a few nice zoos........I was planning on going down there this week ....But have my mind on setting up the 75........Dude maybe we could hookup one weekend down the keys.......good luck and be safe

BTW Eric.......I would say anyone of the bridges would be nice to check out......I may head down there the middle of next week....I have the whole week off.........My plan is to have my 75 RR up and running by Thrusday....maybe swing down the keys on Friday to pick up a new cleanup crew for the new tank....then head over to Roggers house with my dremel tool.......:):):).......

Can I just say: I'm SSSOOOOOOO JEALOUS!!!! :bounce3: I wanna go!Iwannago!Iwannago!
BTW Our high temp today was 58. I hate where I live.
We were snorkeling in Key Largo 2 years ago and it was amazing!

Hopefully Andrea answers my PM, lol she is the hardest person to get into to contact on RC.

Any type of equipment needed when I snorkle?

Oh yeah, Brain LMK whats going on when you go. I'm going down there on Monday probably from sunrise to sunset.

I am spending my "Labor Day snorkling weekend" in bed........with the worst cold and cough I had in years :(

Oh well, I'll be there next weekend for sure!

Eric, like Brian said, just south of Bahia Honda bridge is where I go, other than mask, snorkle, fins, dive flag you need good waterproof sunscreen, a dive knife and something like a bait bucket. And the Saltwater Fishing licence.

Good luck and have fun! I'll be getting buzzed on Robitussin......

Oh, Eric, be careful with "Buddy" the park area shark, he won't bite unless you get too close to him, otherwise he is really sweet.

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

Buddy's a nurse shark, right?

A dive knife is used for if you get tangle up by fishing line or the like, right? Or for protection from the fishes?

It's like one of those thing that you need to have it and hope won't be able to use it thing, isn't?

Thanks!
Gary

Thanks Gary, looking outside at the weather I guess it wouldn't have been too much fun anyways...

As far as the knife, I use it to get zoas, you cannot get them unless you have a knife, works for rock anemones too. And of course it kinda gives you a little sense of security in case "Buddy" turns out to not be a nurse shark:D

Looks like I will be checking the weather before I go. If I don't go snorkling then I guess it will be fishing at night before I go home. Any ideas where I can fish?

""As far as the knife,Buddy" turns out to not be a nurse shark"

I'm sorry to to tell you but you're out of luck with a knife and a shark anyways.

now a bang stick...is a different story :)

Eric don't worry about the sharks, they are really not that bad, just swim like a fish and you will be alright!:)
