Kidney donor

Just found out my brother had a complete kidney failure due to diabietes. I am in the process of getting checked to see if i am a match to be a donor. I have always planned on becoming scuba certified. I do alot of snokeling. Would being a donor cause problems getting certified? The info i have so far says you can lead a normal life. You just have to be careful to protect your remaining kidney, such as contact sports, and extreme sports.

Shouldn't affect your diving at all. Very noble thing to do for your brother.

i would think in that case extreme sports would pertain more to skateboarding and motocross and stuff like that, where an injury would be more likely, much the same as contact sports, but i would ask specifically and probably talk to a dive doctor.

I would call or e-mail DAN (Divers Alert Network) and talk with one of their Doc's. That is the best advise I can offer.

According to Scuba Doc, you should be fine. Of course, check with your doctor to be sure.
