Kidninja's 12 Gallon JBJ Nano Cube DX

Beautiful

Beautiful

Hard to believe how well you're doing with the stock lighting. I'm in the process of building a JBJ nano 12, but I'm planning to upgrade the lighting to 4 x 24watt PC bulbs a la Nanotuners. One suggestion that worked really well in my JBJ 6 gal Nano - put cheato in the middle chamber. I tried a coumple of fountain lights in the chamber with the cheato, with poor results. Then, I went to JBJ's 4 LED refugium light and the cheato really took off. Fixed my cyano problems in 2 weeks.

just a quick update on growth video will be posted later or tomorrow!

What a great, simple tank! Love the simplicity to it and color/coral selection. I really like the idea of the hydor flow.

what do you keep for a clean up crew? you may want to throw in a few different kinds of snails they work wonders on alage. also a few red leg hermits may take care of some alage looks beautiful btw!

right now i have 2 snails (forget what name) 2 red leg hermits, 1 emerald crab, 1 cleaner shrimp a bunch of cerith snails and a bunch of baby snails

Very nice nano

Very nice nano

Hi,
Lucky me, I just got a tank like yours from a friend since I helped set up his system. I've kept some soft corals in my 125G before but recently decided to convert it to fish only since I think I shouldn't rush it.
Your tank is inspiring me to do something similar with my nano (after I clean it) but I have several questions/comments if you don't mind helping me out:

Lighting - I didn't realize the stock CF lights would be sufficient for these corals. It's very impressive...what type of bulbs do you use and how many hours a day? Also, do you think it's strong enough for an anemone in case I want to keep one with a mated pair of clowns?

Equipment - Have you had to replace the fans? Do they do a good enough job of keeping the tank cool? Do you use a chiller? You don't even need a skimmer?

Maintenance - How often do you do water changes? How many gallons per time and with what brand salt? What kind of supplements do you use? How often do you need to add top off water or does it not evaporate much due to the cover.

Sorry for the numerous questions but I would love to get my tank to look like yours. Why not learn from someone who's been there and done that?

Thanks in advance!

lighting - they are the stock bulbs that come with the tank, nothing changed or modded. light turns on at 10 am shuts off at 8 pm. as for an anemone, i have seen tanks with the same lights being able to support them

equipment - did not replace fans, tank does not overheat, no chiller, no skimmer but i have thought about it.

maintenance - water change i do it whenever i feel like i need to get some algae out of the tank lol but its like every 2 - 3 weeks. i use instant ocean salt. supplements dont really use any. i add water when the back chamber goes below a certain point between the 2nd and 3 chambers. i usually top off every week like a cup ful

beautiful tank! Do you use a skimmer? I have a 10g nano and I'm wondering if I should add a skimmer or not.

Your tank continues to look great.

Do you have an additional baffle over the return overflow? What does it do and is it necessary since mine doesn't have one.
What kind of snails are you adding and do you need that much for a 12g?
Also, do you have an old picture of the aquascape before you added corals? Just want to get an idea of how to set up mine.

Thanks again!
