Killer Maroon

i bought a new maroon clown as an additional to my existing one, to pair them up, the moment i introduced the new one to the tank the old one started chasing in just a few minutes all the fins, tail nipped to hell! when i got home the new maroon is already missing... lesson learned, i will never add another maroon clown in my tank. lol!

by the way i have a randall goby, yellow watchman, 3 stripe damsel, lawnmower blenny, mandarin dragonet, porcelain crab, pistol shrimp, fire blood shrimp, cleaner skunk, my maroon never bothers them except the damsel when getting close to his BTA host.

I'm still a newbie, but have been reading up on different clowns lately. It seams that the best way to introduce a new Maroon Clown to a tank with an existing one is to ensure it is smaller in size (so as not to try and not have two females) and to not put them right together in the DT. You basically use either a partition or a breeder box (I think that is what the small 1 gallon plastic boxes are called). For at least the first week or two I think the new Maroon is only to be allowed out supervised (if at all). It is generally let out when it is showing submissive behaviour (shuddering, etc.).

Hopefully this helps.

Cheers,
K.

maroons are tough and mean. you could still add one if you got a little net fish breeder or a
basket and house the newer clown for a few weeks until the older clown gets used to it then you can release it into the tank.

A lot of people have tried pairing maroons; it's a tricky process. Do a forum search (top right) and you can read up on it. :) Best of luck if you try again!

thanks for the replies! by the way the new maroon is about half the size of the old one, well lessons learned for a newbie haha
