Before a put a rock that i just bought from lfs into my nano... would it hurt much to scrub off the algae? part of the rock is very slimy, or should i just put in in dark for a week and let it "cure" a bit, maybe change the water everyother day, to keep it clean, and hope the algae dies back. . I dont really want another type of algae blooming in my tank, the hair is enough.

thanks.

I would keep the rock in a separate container for a while, as you suggest, with a heater and a pump. Some water changes might help, especially if ammonia appears. Scrubbing off the unwanted alga sounds like a fine idea to me. I use a toothbrush for small jobs.

do you have a pic? im guessing you want to add it to a established tank, i wouldnt, i would cure it seperatly and scrub the alagae off in a seperate container off saltwater(not the water to be cured in, i was wondering about a pic just in case its cyno or HA which can spread quickly

ive got Hair algae, and it has been sitting in the display tank of the LFs for(ever?) they dont sell the display rock sooo it is prolly years old, but their tanks are infested with HA and Astepsia (this rock has none, i have delt with that before), there is like 4 bubbles of algae also, (my main tank also have about 4 large bubble that are seperate. (this is my MB7 tank :), but the new rock is large, its gonna look sweet though.)

cell phon epic may come soon :/ not that you can tell what it is, but yahoo! email isnt picking it up yet.
