"Kind Of" a Funny Story

Hey guys,

As some of you know I am restarting my hobby after a few years and you guys have been great at assisting and giving advice and I feel more confident this time. That said, as I enter the 6th week of my new tank going up and first time with a sump and all, my wife has been a little reluctant along the way as she really got attached to a mandarin last time before my heater malfuntion.

That said she has let me begin the hobby again. Yesterday she opened the PG&E bill and saw that it had jumped $400.00!! since we had gotten the tank set up. Now granted it's only a 55 gal but after talking to her we decided to give in to the finances and get rid of the tank. I was at work and was trying to figure out how the bill went up so much. Did the new powerheads suck up energy, did the custom lights I bought from sulcata take that many watts, does electricity really cost that much these days??

I was depressed as i was talking my wife through the process of shutting the tank down and starting to try and put some of the stuff on craigslist. She freaked out as the water rose in the sump but as I had checked it, it stoped a few inches before overflowing.

I worked for a couple hours before realizing that there was no way the bill could have been so high. I left work early and checked the PG&E meter and called them to discuss what had happened.

As the operator told me the readings I began to realized that the meter reader had been off by 1000 on his readings. Instead of $400 my tank had really cost us an extra $12 from the previous month. I got off the phone and excitedly restarted the tank and talked to my wife about the $12 dollar a mounth thing that heats only rocks and algae and agreed to get her a few fish and hermits next week to look at, if perameters are all good.

The tank got going again and the fan worms reopened and all was good. For a few hours, then the transformer blew in our neighborhood and the power remained off for 10 hours as they fixed the thing. Good news as the transformer was right outside my window and the crews worked all throught the night.

After a night of no sleep and offering the crews coffee, all is good now and my wife spent a couple hours looking for new growth and life while I work the weekend. Monday is a O.T. day for me and extra $ for the tank.

Hope you guys weren't bored by my story but it is kinda funny to me "NOW".....Craig.

I'd complain and see if I could get any comps/discount etc. What happened if you didn't catch this and quite the hobby, later to find out a month later it was based on a malfunction? I'd be very pi$$ed off it that were to happen to me. Funny with a happy ending story :)

That's awesome dude! I wouldn't bother complaining to PG&E about it though. They won't do sh*t! tRUST ME, i SPEAK FROM EXPERIANCE.

That is freakin hilarious man. Good thing it was such a huge mistake other wise you might not have cought it. LOL
