kind of new to town

Hi, I am Kind of new to town, Been here for a few months. I have got my tanks set back up and I am in the prosses of building a Salt water pond. I am looking for a good LFS to buy suff from. A place that is willing to "get stuff" for me. I am sick of ordering from the internet and getting sub-par livestock, I want to see what I am getting first hand. The tank condition, the lighting, type of bulbs, salt, water peramiters ext. Who am I buying stuff from. I want a face to go with the voice and product.

I have been to a couple of places so far looking for odds and ends and so far not really impressed. The personel I spook with were flat out rude and/or the prices were quite high. Is the pricing just a Colorado thing? Any way I spoke with other stores on the phone they were happy and easy to talk to and one has great sounding plans for the future but not much for fish right now, sounded like alot of nice corals, which is fine I am looking for both and I am in no hurry.

thank you for any help Mr. 700

Colorado Springs is very competitive and the prices are higher than most other places around the country. Our 2 sponsors fpr SCMAS are Neptune' Realm and Exotic Tropicals. Exotic's is on the lower end of the price spectrum, and Scott will attempt to order whatever you want. Also you will find help from local reefers when it comes to used equipment, and some live stock. Post your needs and someone may have what you are looking for.

Good luck and welcome to CS and the club. :)

COreefer, Thank you for the kind jesture and helpfull input. I looked back in the phone book and Exotic Tropicals was the store I called with the big plans. The guy "Scott" seemed reasanably nice on the phone, how is the store? I have yet to call Neptunes thank you again for the help.

reefkoi, not to be rude, but if you have no comment then why did you post one? I am simply "as I read on the forum" like you and sick of altered photos, 20,000K lighting and thinking I will be recieving a 4" + piece and not being able to find it in bag when it arives. I like to see what I am buying. If it does not look good I won't get it. If there is 10 to choose from I want to pick it not some under paid worker somewhere who doe'nt care about me or the live stock. I think that is pretty, resonable don't you?:)

Welcome to SCMAS!

I prefer Exotic Tropicals, Scott has been able to locate
some rare livestock, and seems to have good connections.
I can't really comment on the other stores as I don't shop anywhere else in town anymore.

Well you are welcome...

Exotics is a very good store, and he is a nice guy. The only downside is sometimes there is this dude hanging out there who posted here for about three days that likes to embelish everything and act like he knows it all. He is sort of a jerk. Typically he isn't in there, but if you happen to run into him, just ignore him. ;)

Theres alot of Great talent here on Scmas.. Along with a few stores aound the area... Like you have already done shop around from the stores that Mustang 394 posted..And make your judgment from there.. Theres a nother store in Pueblo called Pet Paridise if i remeber rite that also deals in saltwater fish and also corals.... None the less just a big welcome to the area..!!!!
Now the salt water pond sounds Very interesting would like to hear more...

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all for the warm welcome. I most certanly am honored.

From the sounds of it Exotic Tropicals is the place to... I will most certanly check out every one and build my own opions.

Real Fast to save me a number of phone calls, who in town has the best price an Tropic Marin and Tropic Marin Reef Pro? I am going to run out of salt about mid January.

reefkoi...

you have a 600 gallon? what are the dimentions? Mine is 10'X3'X3' = 673 gollons however, it is at this time a fish only. I would love to make it a reef and use my 210 for a frag tank. But that is a great deal of time and money. What do you have in your 600 "Mr. 600"? And why did you not use Mr. 600 for you name? I must have tried 20 or more names and combos, but all were taken and out of frustration I typed in Mr. 700 and to my surprise it was exepted. At first I did not like it.... it seemed..... well to much like a jerks name. I really did not expect for it to go thru.

Any way I must go... there is an air plane waiting for me...like it would wait...ha,ha I'm off on business can't wait to talk to you all next week. regards Mr. 700

Well Mr700 my dimensions are 96x48x30tall its a reef with all types of corals and fish mixed. I thought of Mr 600 as a joke when i was down at the store a couple weeks ago. I wrote it on a tank, so that was way after I had got my screename here on RC.
Have fun jetting off to wherever it is your are jetting off to, it sounds really fun!

Oh BTW "I have never seen" tropic marin sold locally I buy 4 buckets at a time from fosters and smith online for the cheap shipping $4 per bucket, i wish I could get it locally, consistently and for less than the $100 per bucket that neptunes in denver sells it for.

ahh..........seascapes, nice I wonder how much? I think I also saw a bucket there now that you mention it, but I dont think it was marked? That huge green carpet at seascapes makes the visit worthwhile always, it huge!

I would like to know the advantage of Tropic Marin to Instant Ocean. At twice the cost per bucket, does Tropic Marin do something special to our tanks? I have substantial growth with IO and would like to know if TM would improve that even more?
