Kinda OT: Lionfish painting

Hey all,

A friend of mine asked me for feedback on this. She wants to lighten the background, I kinda like the current contrast. With her permission, here's a pic of what we're evaluating and I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here since it's a theme we all like.

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks

I think the fish on the black background looks great. However, I don't really like the jelly fish in there. I think it would be stunning if it were matted and framed.

** When I first saw your title I was thinking 'don't tell me their painting lionfish like those poor freshwater fish' ;-)

Thanks for the feedback so far all. :) I'm going to be talking w/ her again tonight and will pass it along to her. If she planned to just keep it for herself it'd be no biggie but she's looking to see what appeals to the eyes of others.

Anyone else wants to chime in, feel free.

i saw this in the first stages when it was being started. That the background went in LAST? is amazing from an artist's viewpoint. I think she has alot of talent and patience.

with a contrasting mat and a stylized frame...perhaps on the art deco side...i'd buy it. in a second! Nice work.

Addition: DO NOT LIGHTEN THE BACKGROUND. It will take away the effect of the great contrast she has going on. The mat i suggested will do what I think she is looking for without messing with what was already an arduous task.
