Hey all!

I'm up here on business all week and was wondering if anybody knows of any LFS in the area? I'm coming back on Friday - Just in time for the meeting!

TIA!

I'm from Arcata

Yes there are two to check out, but there is nothing that you couldn't find here.

Balanced Aquarium
5000 Valley West Blvd # 4
Arcata, CA 95521
(707) 826-0154

Fin-N-Feather
2931 F St, Eureka, CA 95501
(707) 443-4914

Just for the interesting, "Gee I wouldn't expect that here" comment, CPR, (CPR Bak Pak Skimmers) is right around the corner from Balanced Aquarium.

And last, right before you jab a stick in your eye because you are bored out of your skull, depressed because its probably foggy, and angered because nobody can seem to drive as if they wanted to get somewhere, the Humboldt State University Marine Labratory is in Trinidad and open to the public.

And yes, it always feels like it is 1982 in Arcata and you feel like you are in a time warp. Go to the Arcata Plaza or Redwood Park and watch some Hippies in thier natural enviroment.

Ah home sweet home.

the employees at balanced and fin n feather were always super cool. last time i was in town i didn't get a chance to go to either :(.

if you're doing some breweries, make sure to hit six rivers in mckinleyville as well as lost coast in eureka!

have fun!

last time i was in eureka i went into fin n feather. they had an awsome fresh and salt display. the tanks were spotless and all specimens looked extremely healthy.

Everyone in Humboldt is super cool. Even though its only 5 hours away, its a whole different world up there. I went to HSU and hope to move there permanently some day.

yeah if you can handle the isolation it's great. i lived in mckinleyville while i went to HSU.

i sure do miss the redwoods and the ocean being at my back door. oh yeah and the cheap rent :)

We went to Fern Canyon all the time. What a great hike! And there were always Elk out there when we visited.

I miss the ocean fishing and Saturday farmer's market in the Arcata Plaza the most.

Until I hiked on the coast - nearly all my hiking was in the Sierras and there are bears there - rare, but there. Knowing full well the area on the coast had Elk, I was still scared out of my *** out in the woods when I came around a downhill corner and saw the butt end of one about five feet away. I so thought it was a big bear and freakin' yelled. Scared both of us (me and the elk) even further I think. Talk about an adrenaline rush for nothing... :D Fern Canyon is one of California's special places.

Thanks Everyone?

Funny - Drove by Fins and feathers today so I will be sure to hit that up tomorrow on my way out!

Thanks for the reminder about the HSU Marine Lab - I don't think I will have time this week but will be sure to check that out on the nex trip up...

Mark - Had lunch at Lost Cost today - Stop by everytime I'm up!

BK - Six River's is my favorite spot up here! Spent St. Patty's day there and it was also there 4 year anniversary. It was a blast! Won't be suprised if we end up there tonight.

Thanks everyone for the good info....

Six rivers brewery is a block away from my parents house! I grew up in Mckinleyville

If there was any money up there I would move back.
