Kole Tang and Yellow Tang - little aggession

Hi Guys and Gals:

I added a Yellow Tang (after 4 weeks in quarantine) into my 180 with my 1.5 Year old Kole tang. Its been 4 days and they really do not care for each other.

I noticed the Kole as marks on both sides near her tail fin. I assume its from aggression from the Yellow. The yellow is smaller than the Kole but seems more aggressive.

Is it going to get better and I should wait and see.....or should I pull the Yellow out an trade her back in????

Thoughts.....and/or warm fuzzies about the situation>?

I have a yellow and a kole tang.

I added the yellow after the kole. For the first week the kole was aggressive to the yellow tang. After that they ignore each other.

Thanks guys; those are the warm fuzzy comments I was looking for. They seem a little better this morning. Both are just such beautiful fish i would hate to get rid of either

Mine does that every time I add a new fish. It used to freak me out, but it's really just something that happens when they're agitated. It's always around the scalpel so I'm wondering if it's a signal that things could get aggressive.

If you continue to see aggression, you could always add another tang. I call this technique the "cichlid effect" lol. It means that you put more tangs (or cichlids) into a system and the aggression has to be spread out among the members, rather than being concentrated only on one individual. I would consider something like a powder blue or brown, or something of similar size or appearance. If you continue to see aggression, that is...or if you just want another tang.

Interesting! I also noticed at night the Yellow Tang will Brown in Color and a White Line will appear on her side. Fish never cease to amaze me

I added a kole several years after the yellow and they are friends after a couple of days of aggression.

They have lightened up on each other a little...

I love that idea, the wife.....not so much!!

Thanks for all the comments....Tom

Just a quick update; my tangs aggression has gone down a lot. They by NO means love each other but are tolerating one another.

On another note, I ADDed a Female Blue Mandarin and now my existing Female spotted Mandarin is totally bend out of shape. Saltwater fish crack me up!
