A few questions i have a 150 gallon setup with
2 pajama cardinals
2 paired clownfish
1 royal gramma
1 green chomis
1 lawnmower blenny
2 enginne gobies
1 firefish
my question is can i have both tangs in this system together without risking agression and is my system adequate for both tangs as they grow. If not which tang should i get and why, Kole or yellow.

I'd say you should be fine with those two tangs, but that's literally it for that family. I would try to find smaller ones and also introduce them at the same time to curb any aggression they might initially have.

I have tried to put these two together a few times over the years without luck. Seems like the kole tang always ends up more aggressive .

I added a kole many years ago after my YT was already established. The YT showed some aggression for a few days, but then they settled in fine and there was no fighting or chasing. Interesting, they actually hung out together and often swam together.

i bet your kole will torment your lawnmower blenny to no end. mine did, and i have heard several similar reports for Ctenochaetus spp.

my YT killed my yellow eye kole tang. they were fine together for a few months, then the YT decided no more and dispatched him. granted mine is a smaller tank, so perhaps there will be more room for them to spread out in yours.

which did you prefer after having both then, if i were to just get one or the other

Yellow tang less aggressive then Kole. Don't ever get a clown tang aka fish shredder. Those guys are pure evil. I had one that was the size of a quarter. Put him in a tank with about 8 fish. All fish in tank picked on him for the first few days. So finally rearranged the rocks they left him alone. About a week later he was attacking my blue tang that is about a dinner plate. He ended up cutting his belly and killing him. As well as scratching up a few other fish. He went as far as chasing them into coves and attacking them. Finally got him out and gave it away.

You can consider a pyramid or zoster butterfly, they are the only reef safe butterfly fish. Very peaceful and will get alone with everyone else.

Still undecided, if I were to put my lawnmower blenny in my refugium should I get a yellow tang or kole tang. I'll also now have to consider those butterflys

I have this pair, kole went in first. the kole is the butthead and he's half the size. The yellow just looks at him. like get away from me kid, your bothering me.

i have kole tang 4", yellow tang 2.5", and a onespot foxface 4" in my tank. yellow tang was added last using the mirror. my kole tang is the coolest guy. he never shows aggression towards other fish including the yellow tang. but the problem is between the foxface and the yellow tang. foxface is trying to bully the yellow tang all the time but it's fighting back. i think i will face big problems when they grow large. so that becomes a good reason to upgrade to a bigger tank sooner :D
