Kole tang stirring up my sand bed

So I have a yellow eyed kole. That keeps stirring up the sand bed around the area where he sleeps. I didn't think anything of it till recently I've noticed that he has sand all over his body. Could this be just sand from him stirring up the sand or something else? Thanks for the help
