Kole tang with weird growing mark

Hope the tang continues to improve. As you've noticed, metro will devastate your biofilter. Once treatment is complete, it might be a good idea to re-seed it with something like Bio-spira. Otherwise, you'll be battling ammonia until the biofilter reestablishes itself.

I've tried biospira recently and it didn't work at all. hopefully metro doesn't completely kill it

Interesting. I've been very pleased with Bio-spira; it's one of the few bacteria-in-a-bottle products that actually works.

yeah once the antibiotics are finished maybe I'll give it another go.

the kole seems to be healing nicely, should I keep dosing until it's completely healed? my third does of metro would be Friday (and the 6th dose of kanaplex. I know it said not to exceed 3 doses, but I'm not sure which antibiotic is working so I thought keeping both going would be the best thing to do.

yeah I was thinking 6 would be my max, but I guess I'll see how the kole looks on Saturday. the spot is looking better and better so hopefully it's gone before the weekend is up.

the kole tang is looking a lot better! the marks are almost all gone now. should I do a huge water change and leave everything alone or should I dose again unit it's completely healed? I wouldn't dose again without a water change.

Based on my experience with a butterflyfish and the same looking infection (very common area as it's the widest point of the fish where lots of water passes by making for a thinner protective coating and more prone to infection), Kanamycin didn't have any effect after a few days, so I switched to Nitrofuracin Green Powder and it worked wonderfully. Then I put the fish back in the main to continue to heal in a more natural environment. He's doing great to this day, but still has minor infection outbreaks from time to time, they look like little pimples. When I see this I soak his frozen food blend in Selcon and they heal right up.

hey thanks for the reply! yeah I think the metro started to do something. you can still see the spot on the side, but it's so much better then it was when it first showed. i know metro doesn't work well in the water column but I can't get the tang to eat any food with the metro on it. I'll do a water change and dose just the metro and see what happens this week. next week I'll do prazi and hopefully be on the way to getting them in the tank. I'm going to attempt the TT method right before they go in the DT.

Metro in the water column should be adequate, I've dosed food for,the DT tank for parasites but tracking the dosage is much more of a wild guess.

the spot is barely noticeable at this point. the lines are coming back and it's darkening up a lot. thank you for all the help everyone! I started TT and prazi so hopefully these guys can get in the display in 3 weeks if everything goes right. thanks again!

both the tangs are in the DT now. the yellow tang isn't thrilled about the PBT but swims with the kole for most of the day. I'm hoping the aggression dies down over the next few days. thanks for all the help and info!!
