Koralia vs. Nanostream

I know there's been a huge thread about this over on the equipment forum. But I wanted to know if anyone here owns one of these or had any experience with these? Honestly, it's a 50/50 split or so I think. So. I figured.. what better way to find out in than with the people you live around. Oh yeah, for some if ya'll who made mods to it, how do you like them? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

I have the tunze nano-streams (6025) and really like them. Both of mine are modded with basically all the mods on the nano-stream mod thread (wide flow, standard, full blast). They're pricey, but I don't think that they're too much more than the koralia's. Plus I think the nano-streams are a little bit smaller - which is a bonus! :)

Koralia 2 (600gph/4.5Watts) = $35.99 [drsfostersmith.com]
Tunze 6025 (660gph/7Watts) = $61.84 [premiumaquatics.com]

But, you can also mod the 6025 to double the flow with a little dremelling (is that a word?).

hey paliya,

was it hard to mod the 6025. I have 2 6045 and have consider doing it but haven't

I don't think you can add vortech to the comparison of these 2 pumps. Its a whole different league with the vortech. I know, I have both the vortec and nano in my tank.

I read the mod instructions. It doesn't look too hard.

I was thinking the flow btwn the two. My roomate picked up two hydors 1 and I wasn't too impressed. Did it get hyped up too much? or is it just me...

I remember pico had the nanostream attached to his seaswirl... hey jordan if you can bounce right in.. let me know how like it.

oh yeah..hey lou and paliya do you guys have problems with the nanostreams when you guys turn it off then back on? I've been hearing they have clicking problems and firing problems?

loup: A friend of mine did the mods for me. He's much handier with the dremmel. He told me it was easy though. Just in case, I ordered two extra front cases off of the tunze website for like $10 each and my friend modded those ones. So I still have my original un-modded front cases if I need them. And I agree with you about the vortech (I've never had one, but I've seen them).

eagleONE: One of my 6025's seems to have some trouble starting up occasionally. I have them on 15 minute on/off timers... occasionally, 1 of them will take maybe 5 minutes to start going. This probably happens once per day. And there is a little bit of clicking during start up for mine because of the mods. I have the 'stopper' mod, so it's like an mjmod with a little stopper to stop the propeller from spinning backwards. The noise is definitely not significant in my opinion though. It lasts for less than a second, then when they're running they're virtually silent.

hey guys,
I have 3 6045 nano streams in my tank. One in each corner facing the center and 1 zip tied to the sea swirl in the center (see my thread for pics). I really like having the stream on the sea swirl. It works great to get some random flow going and doesn't look like a DIY since I used black zip ties. I've also had the 6025s and I really liked them as well. Never had any problems and they are so tiny they blend in with the black background. One time one started in reverse but I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked fine. I highly reccomend the nanostreams.

I have both 6025s and Koralia 4. All modded. Based on my experience definitely go with a 6025 if you can mod it. A K4 is almost twice the size of a 6025, draws 12W (more heat in the tank), the 6025 is 7W, when modded has a little more flow than a stock K4 at 1200gph:

The 6025 is on the left with the wide flow mod (nozzle cut back).

The K4 is modded with a bigger prop (Octura 1240) and a MJ1200 impeller magnet. It now draws about 16W and the flow is about 1500gph.

The 6025 has a much stronger magnet holder, can be moved around from the dry side, the K4 barely holds on to my 1/2" glass and is not adjustable from the outside.

Tunze v. Hydor. Buy once and but a better product. Buy the 6045 if you get the chance. I have the 6025. The 6045 weren't around yet. I am waiting for the 6055's because they are controllable.
