Kordon breathable bags

Anybody out there use these for shipping their breeding accomplishments? Where do you get them from? I'm trying to find some close by if possible but no luck so far. Thanks for any info.

I don't ship as a rule. But I have used Glad fresh protect bags to store rotifers refridgerated. They work very well!

I only use the Kordon bags for shipping my seahorses. Since seahorses are vertically oriented fish it is harder to ship them with normal bags. Since these breath you can fill them up all the way and you don't get all that splashing around in the bags during shipping.
I got mine on www.aquabid.com in the shipping supplies section.

idyllwild COOL fun place :D

I liked them, used them all the time. you can get better prices depending on whos ordered and how many :D

I bought some from kensfish.com and was happy with them (I don't know how the price compares?):

I used a heat-sealer to seal them up, and once I figured out how to do it so the bags wouldn't leak  I was very happy with them. When I first got them I tested them out-- I left clowns in bags overnight and they were fine the next day.

Thanks Matt also for the link. I will check these out and try some of the bags. I've heard only good things about them and right now I'm just experimenting with my products and these bags look promising.

Bruce I may need to talk to you at some point because I too have seahorses.

You might want to PM jhardman. I seem to remember that he used them for shipping clowns and there was a reason why he stopped using them.

Nope, that was me :)

John and his sister used those bags with no problem.

I shipped two pairs of A. chrysopterus in Kordon bags from Virginia to Minnesota, both were DOA. I then used regular double plastic bags to ship another pair to the same location - no problem  My idea was that there is not enough O2 in the cargo area, I might be wrong, though.

I gather that regular bags can breathe when they are dry (the air portion) but Kordon bags can breathe either dry or wet, so you don't have include air in the bag. But that doesn't mean they don't still lneed air outside the bag for O2 exchange.

I have used them a lot and only had a problem once and that was when I did not fill the bag all the way. BTW, they are huge bags and add greatly to the total shipping weight.

My sister that has been a FW breeder for many many years has never had a loss with them.

I think Maria is right that sometimes you get a plane that doesn't have enough O2.

I have a ton of them if you want to pay the shipping I can send some to you. PM me if your interested. I got mine direct from Kordon.

But remember you need to really go thru the whole mess of getting certified by FedEx to ship fish. I know lots of people "get a away" with it, but why risk the lifes of the animals you are shipping? Why would you be risking them someone will ask... Because FedEx policy is that if a box leaks and the it not 100% (which is never the case) clear as what the leaking substance is, the box is deverted to the main hub for HAZMAT inspection/testing, which can add days to weeks to the transit time. They can also stop taking any shippments from you.

Also if you are going to ship in bulk, you would be a lot better off get an air freight contract setup. Air freight is the only way to go if you are shipping >75# at a time.

Also II... You can not ship outside the US without an import/export permit, which is easy to get. Just lots of little hoops to jump thru and HORIBLE instructions on how to jump thru them. It is amazing how three days of reading and research can be totally put aside by actually talking to a USFWS and US Customs agent for five minutes.
