Kriesel Construction

Bubba,

Please stop spamming every forum you can find with the same question.

Post a thread in the appropriate forum and give it more than a few minutes to get some answers.

Thanks.

I did not spam, as you call it, "every" forum i could find. I only visted the forums were I thought this question could get a reasonable answer to, for example ADVANCED, INVERTABRATES, DIY etc. However, I did pose the question to one other group in general discussion section just based upon the fact that it was highly populated. Sorry general discussion members for my commercial type actions. On the average do people from other forums travel to different forums?
in other words would every person get to see my question or just the people in the DIY forum? Alas, I am brand new to forums in general, If you could not tell already, and would like to appologize to everyone for past, present(this transmission), and perhaps future offenses. I have been told twice already and I do get the point(and understand this nuance in forum etticute). In other words there is no need to rub this puppies face in his own excrement anymore, I will NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!!

You'd form it just like any other radius. Build the suitable form, heat the material in a large oven and drape it over the form. I would advise not trying to build one though until you have enough practice with acrylic as there are a million places to go wrong. Check page 3 of my gallery for a coupla designs.

As for using large diameter tube, it's just not worth it as the pricing on such tube is prohibitively expensive.

Again if there is anyone out there that knows how to do this with out tubing, probably but not nessecarily with an oven please help

This should give you some ideas of how you could do it.

Here's a true circular shape which you are trying to duplicate.

Here's a way to do it without a large cylinder or tube.

Wow!!! great ideas, I assume this large oven would be outside my budget. Is it to pricey or even possible to get shops to make a tube this way or let a person such as myself to use a shop oven.

how about that screen for the out flow...how big are the holes? Does it matter if it produces a laminar flow like my dream kriesel?

do you think they are just applied via marine epoxy? How would one fix it if it broke or is that the time to build a new one?anything on laminar flow?

Bubba,

Depending on how big of a tank you want, the "cheater" version of a kriesel can be built by selecting an standard extra high aquarium and stiking a rolled up piece of thin acrylic sheet into the tank. You can get creative with the inlets and outlets, but I have seen a few of these and they work well.

Calvin's bottom diagram is similar to what I am trying to describe.

The suction screen has nothing to do with laminar flow, it's only purpose is to suck out particulate matter without sucking out the jellies, which is why the size of the screen depends on the animals you intend to keep and the size/type of food to be used.
Often, laminar flow is created by spray bars like in the pseudokreisel in Eric's drawing.
Filter screen media can be applied via epoxy, silicone, whatever...

I stated the laminar flow question in a goofy place sorry? The screen is on the output, the input of my dream tank that has opaque partitions is where the laminar flow is created. What is this for? and why do i need it ?

I am going to switch my project to the one calvin415 as it does seem to be easyier that my dream kriesel. although I cannot figure out why thier are two holes in the output and only one in the input?

Because Monterey Bay Aquarium and most public aquariums always use an extra "emergency" overflow hole in case of blockage on others. Since Kevin R (publisher of this dwg) works at MBA - this extra hole would be included. It is a design feature in all of their true & stretch kreisels dating back to the mid '80s. It is not absolutley necessary in my opinion - just use a larger hole instead.

Wow you are truly a master. I would like to do an apprenticeship under you for acrylic aquariums. I love minnesota but mount hood is beautful as well. This is why i came to reef central!! Thank you for all your replies I truly value them!!!!!!

LOL!, I've just been building these things for MBA and others since way back when so I know their drawings pretty well :)

It looks like a sump but with a curved baffle so to speak and a few chambers. Since you would save a bundle by buying sheet acrylic, you may be able to heat shape the acrylic over a plywood jig. What you save should justify buying yourself some tools like a heat gun perhaps, some clamps, etc...
