L.E.D's in photography?

How long do you think it will take for the led's to be implemented into photography or has it already? I can see the flash units used on or off camera replaced with led units ..this would help with the large batteries and longevity of the bulbs v.s l.e.d units..I think they are even using L.E.D's on cars now guess it will be the new thing soon..what do you think?

Lite Panels has been making LED lighting for photography and video for at least the past three or four years. I don't own them and have never used them myself but I believe they're still pretty pricey.

They're out there already if your willing to pay the price, I remember about 10 years ago replacing my backpacking/camping lights with LED...everyone laughed at me at the time, now it seems all the gear is LED...just gotta wait till it gets accepted by respected persons/companies in the hobby in each industry and catches on...ugh

Haven't used them myself, but I've heard these are gaining popularity with cameras with HD video capability like the 5DMII, since they can act as either a flash or a continuous light source. I can also seem them being nice in the modeling world, as I'm assuming they produce much less heat than your normal continuous lighting lamps.

When I was living in L.A. several years ago, I had quite a few friends in the film industry...you'd be amazed at how much they were using LED back then for set work and such.

Oh yeah, I could definitely see LEDs having a lot of benefits there as well. Probably even cheaper in the long run. But you know what we really need. . .waterproof flashes. . .which we probably already have for underwater photography. That could certainly make things easier than my elaborate bounced flash setups.

wow I can imagine when I look back at the old film camera's and they used the huge flashes even the flash bulb type and laugh ..to imagine my kids in there 30's looking back on our gear and laughing look at dad with that huge light on his camera wow that was heavy gear to lug around I bet lol all laughing at me and my gear while they pull out there camera's with this tiny Led light lol laugh out loud...ha ha..i feel old now or should I say older..
