It has been my experience, that buying a used Aqualifter pump can be a crap shoot. they are prone to clogging and if not kept in very good condition, they wear out quickly. and for $20 for a new one, I would recommend you go that route.
i had an old one I cleaned and cleaned many times over and it lasted a whole 3 years. by the end of its life, the seals were all worn and tearing.
