Hey Folks,
as there are so many beautiful tanks on RC I wanted to add my own, hoping your tanks rub of some reef-keeping-luck. ;)

As I am new to RC (and hopefully found the right place to show my tank), so some words about myself: I'm from Germany and got into the hobby about 3 years back. Starting off with freshwater and soon figuring out: "naaah! That's nothing for me!" So I started my first 8 g reef nano. Everything went well so I threw everything into a 24g cube. Now I work in my local fish store and am responsible for the saltwater department. Looking at my 8g, 10g and 24g tanks I just needed something bigger.
So I sat down and made a list of "what I want and never!"

"¢ I did not want my tank to look like the ever so popular Wall of rocks with corals.
"¢ I wanted a fresh and aesthetically pleasing rockwork
"¢ I did not plan to keep any bigger fish
"¢ While diving, I always loved shallow water reefs and lagoons with little patches of corals crowding together and sheltering all those different little animals
"¢ I wanted to recreate that feeling of diversity and that little patch in the ocean brimming with life

After taking my time planning the whole system I did decided to get a custom-built tank and stand. The tank now is a 90x90x55 cm (35x35x21" (hope that's right)) and the stand is stainless steel.

Well, off to some details:
"¢ Tank 90x90x55 cm (35x35x21") Front and Sides are Whiteglas (no idea if that's the name for it... you know, not that greenish stuff)
"¢ Overflow with 3 drilled holes (32 mm, 40 mm, 40 mm ( 11/4", 11/2", 11/2")
"¢ custom Sump 80x60X50 cm (31.5x23.6x19.5") with RoDi compartment (60 Liter / 16g)
"¢ Bubble Magus Nac 5A skimmer
"¢ Hobby temperature control with Schego 300W Titanium heater
"¢ Auto Top Off
"¢ AquaForte Ecomax DM 5000 Returnpump
"¢ Eheim Reeflex 800 Uv-sterilizer
"¢ 2x Tunze 6095 with controller
"¢ 2x AI Hydra with controller
"¢ GHL standalone dosingpump (SA) for Balling

The hardscape was done in dry rock which I cleaned beforehand.

I will incorporate a refugium in the sump with Chaeto later on after cycling it halfway.

It's gonna be a mixed reef with mainly LPS, some SPS and a few softies/leather. I'm gonna throw in some nice Zoas and Rics/Rhodactis because I'm just loving them.
I want to keep a whole lot of little shrimps/crabs like: Periclimenes, Leander plumosus, Neopethrolistes, Lybia tesselata, Thor amboinensis, Urocaridella antonbruunii and many more of those fascinating little critters.
Talking about fish I want to try to establish a school of Apogon parvulus. Apart from those I want a lot of dwarf gobies like Eviota, Trimma, Coryphopterus personatus, a pair of hector gobies and a pair of Signigobius biocellatus
Just a hell of a lot of different little animals to get that feeling of diversity that I miss in quite a lot of tanks.

Well, I hope you like what you see. I would really appreciate comments/critics as I still feel like I can learn a lot. And please excuse any mistakes or strange ways of mine to express something. I'm not writing on english forums on a regular basis. ;)

Cheers,

Erik

Beautiful tank! And your English is better than a lot of Americans English so I wouldn't worry about that.

Very nice. Your English is just as nice. Is that soundproofing foam on the inside walls of the stand? Does it work? Interesting idea, though I imagine it might make the inside of the stand and the sump quite warm.

Hey,

thanks a lot for commenting!
Yes, that is soundproofing foam. The walls of my stand are alu dibond magnetically attached to the stand. The sounds from inside (mainly returnpump and skimmer) were transmitted to the outside quite drastically (louder than without the walls). The foam works quite brilliantly. My Laptops fans are much louder than the whole aquarium right now. But the foam is specifically designed for indoor use in humid areas (whatever that means) and the climate inside my stand didn't change too much.

Cheers
Erik

Just a quick update.

MY corals are moving into the tank right now. My first fish moved in as well.
It's 2 Eviota atriventris"š 4 Trimma striata"š 2 Fusiogobius signipinnis and 2 Nemateleotris decora.

I made a quick video for you"š nothing fancy but I hope it's good enough for you to judge the progress.

Thanks michaellee64!!!

Alright here are some new pictures of the tank to see some progress (my camera is going wild trying to whitebalance... but most of the pictures are quite close to reality):

that red monti cap is starting to scare me... too fast growing!!!!

What is the black background made of? Was that stock to the tank or an add on? It evidently holds up to cleaning?

Beautiful!

Thanks thomb!

actually the back is just painted black on the outside. Some cheap acrylic paint applied with a fine paint roller. I had sticky foil and all those crappy ways to keep your background black but they never worked out quite well enough or becam e loose after some month/years... On the overflow i've got some black pvc glued to the glas by the builder. Just need to clean it with a piece of plastic not with a blade to prevent it from scratching up.

Since it's foam, it will probably hold water from the tank evaporation, and I think you'll have a mold issue later on! Perhaps rigid styrofoam insulation might be better, since it's not so porous?

@girlygears13: I'll watch out for mold. Right now I haven't even got much condensation inside the cabinet. But as I wanted to cover most of my sump I don't reckon it's gonna be an issue

@rholguin: thanks!

Lots of work lately so I didn't have enough time to update anything.
Lost a Euphyllia ancora to brownjelly... well can't do more than frag and desinfect it as soon as you see it... but still sad. I really did like it.

Anybody got an idea of why my montis don't show there polyps like one is used to? They've been that way since introducing them to the tank. It's mostly branching montis like digitata and samarensis that don't open up like i'm used to. No matter where I put them in the tank (strong light/weak light.strong flow/ weak flow.....) doesn't change anything.
I'm dosing tropic Marins A+ an K- trace elements‚ 2-Part‚ 4 times fishfood per day‚ twice a day I feed my corals quite heavily... Nitrates and Phosphates are close to zero but all the other corals (LPS‚ softies‚ clams and sps) are lovin it... just branching montis look quite shitty... they do grow... but not with their polyps extended like I would like it :( anybody got a good tip?
