I saw thses thingies in a tank on some zoos. they looked like red starfish arms, but they were worm thingies.........friend or foe?

They dont look like wide flat slugs, they are about 1 inch and skinny and red............I wish I had got a picture =(

Could it be a small serpent? Lots of times you can only see their arms sticking out around from under or in the corals.

Sounds like a cirratulid worm. They bury their body in sand or corals (like zoas) and you see the feeding extensions. They are yellowish/orange/red in color and look like your "red starfish arms."

Here's a good article about "Spaghetti worms," which these are commonly lumped in with.

I've had these in the past (probably still do) and they are cool little critters. Yay for biodiversity!
