laminate floors

Just wondering if any of you have large tanks on wood laminate floors??? If so what has been your experience? Just wondering if the weight of the tank causes permanent impressions or cracking. Also have you had water spill that caused it to warp. Is one brand better for supporting the weight of a tank and possible water leakage then another?

I've had water spill that warped the floor. The problem with the laminate was the backing, cheap pressed board type stuff. I've had different type of laminate with a solid wood backing that didn't warp with a spill.

FWIW

Thanks for the info. I will have to look at this when considering w/ one to go w/.
Anyone else??

When we lived in Myakka our tank was on Bruce Hardwood Laminate. It was not the Pergo pressed but was the 3 layers of real wood laminated together. The FLoor was glued down to the slab. I had no problems with that floor. Alot of water and abuse. I would not do it with the european laminates though that are pressed board. We have several rooms of Pergo, but it does not like water.
When we sold our house the buyer was real worried about the floor under the tank, and made us move teh tank prior to contract. Needless to say it looked better under the tank then from the normal wear around the tank.
You could always make a tiled pad kinda foyer like with the wood wrapping around it. Might not look to bad...

Thanks for the advise. It sounds like press laminate is out. We are just toying w/ removing the carpet and puting laminate down but my concern was w/ the tank. :)

we pulled carpet and put the laminate from sams club down. we did a dark bamboo...and its been down for 3 months...i just use a drop towl when im doing work...and i bought an extra 3 boxes to redo that corner when i move the tank or get out of the hobby. i used scrap pieces behind the tank as well. the tank is still sitting on carpet...but you can't tell.
