Land Scaping Near the Surface

Anybody have some experience and or thoughts on how high to the surface you really want your live rock. In theory your SPS corals are growing to grow towards the light so if you have live rock to close to the surface it won’t take long for them to grow right to the surface. I have seen a lot of tank pictures that have corals growing right at the water level. Would it be better to keep you rock lower in the tank know that space will be absorbed by growth, and if so how far down the water column should you go????

Anybody have any thoughts on this, I have my live rock like 5 inches form the surface in some places and I wonder if I should lower it????? Most everybody has live rock in their Reefs right how has yours worked out. "Throw me a bone here!" :)

my rock work goes to the water line in hopes to create the wall look. I will just place my coarls lower on the rocks

I placed my rocks very low, under half the height of the tank, in order to leave room for the corals to grow. I dont want a tank full of rock, I want a tank full of coral.

I don't like rock work any higher than about 8" from the surface. Two reasons -- the aforementioned room to grow, and better surface wave / flow action without rocks in the way.
