laptops/desktops just aren't reliable enough.

your nuts.. my pc runs 24/7/365 i built it my self and have 0 probs..... usually people have an underpowered pc for their needs and that were the problems lie. liek i want to run my aquarium do photo shop, burn mp3s all day and crush seti packets on my 486 with 10 megs of ram....

Too bad you can't hook up your Mac to a AC jr. Running Windows on the Mac (Intel based) isn't a problem but getting a USB port to think it's a serial port is.

I have an old 386 based laptop connected to my AC Jr. via serial port(and yes i did purchase the filter for the serial port). It's constantly on and it makes viewing and making changes a snap.

That's a pretty impressive setup on the previous post.

Thanks for all the help, links, ideas, and thoughts... This proves that there are a lot of brilliant people in this hobby. As a note... My old Mac powerbook is still running well and has been pretty much on for the last 8 years straight. That was a good point about stability of the OS, and even better about the potential instability of what I write.

I was hoping to cannibalize/repurpose/liberate something already created... guess not

Sounds like a controller is in my near future. Thanks for the dialogue.
