LARGE shallow tanks

Ive been thinking of doing this for a long time and think im finaly going to go through with it when i get back home(im on vacation at the moment) it will have no top and lights will hang form the roof but im thinking about what to do about a sump any one have any ideas.since the tank is so low to the ground i dont know if i should drill holes or do pumps running water into the sump form the top.this tank will prob be holding rays and sharks. if anyone has any experiance with shallow tanks advice would be greatly apreaciated.

i do know, from reading, and experience with petting tanks for rays in public aquariums, that a tank ideal for these species would need to have no corners.

perhaps a pool type tank, that is primarily top view, but could be side viewed as well?
