Large Tank Built Into Entertainment Center??

Am I out of my mind for wanting to do this? I can build the entertainment center completely around the tank, and I can run the plumbing out through an adjacent wall, however the tank itself will be against an exterior wall, so all access will have to be from the front.

I really don't see this being feasible.

I actually did this with a 90g a few years ago. I built a wall unit around it on a 13' wall. I'll see if I could find some pictures.

My biggest concern in one of these set-ups is that sufficient space be left to access all of the display tank. At 2' wide by 2' tall you will "just" be able to reach the back bottom for reefscaping, cleaning, retrieving dead fish, dropped tools, etc. The ability to raise and lower your light fixtures in the canopy will greatly aid this access. That means space over the tank for your head, shoulders and arms. If possible, try to leave some room for access from the ends, as well. This space can all be hidden by panels when not in use.

Yes, that is all going to be worked out with our friend who is going to draw it all up. He's the architect. Hubby is the man with the tools. I'm the fish tank builder. ;) And I'm no expert by any means, so it's going to take all three of us to sort it out.

I'm trying to remember to consider:

Heat/humidity
Evaporation..again..humidity
Reaching room
Setting it up so that if there is ever a leak, there is minimal damage

Not sure if this picture is going to work as I'm uploading it from my phone.

Thanks woodnaquanut.

I would actually clean it through the front. The board that the tv was mounted to was on industrial sliders. The whole thing would slide forward about 18 inches. The back of the t.v was completely closed off and never got afftected by the humidity or salt creep.

Thank you so much for this!! It looks like we are going to (slowly) move forward with these plans. My laundry room will double as a fish room. There's already plumbing there with an industrial sink that is way bigger than I need it to be. I said something about maybe a smaller sink going in there. My hubby was like, "What if I built you a wall to wall countertop with a sink in the middle?" Score! haha Perfect place to tinker with my ro/di unit and stuff like that. The width of that wall is 5'7" so that's a perfect little work area. That is also the wall that will connect to the end far left end of the fish tank.

I will have to etchasketch you guys an idea of what I'm working with. :)

Edit. Here it is. Don't judge my artwork. lol
