...and I'm not talking about alcohol. Shocking, I know! :D

I'm planning on ordering my tank by the end of the week unless someone has a large reef tank they are about to sell for a great price. If so, speak now or forever hold your peace!

If not, I've settled in on a 240 wide 72x30x25 from GlassCages. I do plan on building my own stand and hood. I've already bought some things I'll be needing, but I think its definitely time to buy the tank and have it close for inspiration. Plus... it takes GC at least 3 weeks for the build.

I'm already going to be requesting starphire on 3 sides plus starphire for bracing. I'm also going to do black silicone. Can I count on them doing a good silicone job, or do I need to stress that? Being black, I expect them to tape the seams to make straight and distinctive lines.

I'm still contemplating about the overflow. First off, I'm thinking that I'd like one overflow in the middle instead of two on each end. Can someone give me prose vs cons on this?

I'm also still deciding if I want to get the overflow cover from them or get someone else to make it. Thoughts on that?

Anything that I'm not thinking about?

Ryan - can you draw out the overflow cover you are talking about? I might be able to make something up for you.

I havent seen any GC tanks that have super clean silicone lines....so you might want to make it clear what you want it to look like.

Since there is a GC 200 gallon, 8' long tank in my basement - I could actually go look at the covers on them! Lol

I'll post back and tell you if I can build them.

Robbie

I think I can make them - but they won't be bent like the ones that are in my basement, but instead cut, and glued, and painted black.

The teeth I can cut either on the table saw, 1/8" thick, or have someone route them - I'll give the router a shot, I haven't tried routing teeth.

I'd specify the method for making the lines like you want. You may not get it exactly, but be specific. With a center overflow, I'd be a little concerned with not getting al four corners to move at the surface. Structural rigidity has always been a concern for me, too, but I've seen it done. If he feels confident on making center overflows, maybe think of 2 for a 240? I guess Euro bracing probably makes up for anything lost from a center overflow.?.

have you thought about doing a coast to coast overflow or Calfo style as it is commonly called ??

one long overflow across the top of the tank with multiple drains and returns.

Thats what I did on mine. Pics are in my other thread. I did it mainly because my tank is only 12.5" deep and I didn't want a horizontal overflow getting in my way. :)

I would do one in the middle just in case you want a wave maker and I am not a fan of running a lot of water through the sump.
