Last Hatch before Italy!

Are you kidding?
 DUH!

My commute is 20 miles. hey thats not soo bad, my commute is about that too, every now and then it takes me about 25 minutes, one way, you know rush hour :D today was a breeze only a few cars on the road. probibly:lol2: took me under 15 minutes :D but I had to stop for gas..... so wallet is empty again :D and that adds time as it takes SOOOO long....

Each way. Still not bad for So Cal!

OK, back to the fish. Day 3 is over, and there still are a lot of babies. They all have fat tummys and are growing. I think there are 60-70. Got a good siphoning done tonight and set up a couple of gallons of fresh saltwater on a slow drip into the tank. Salinity is a little higher than I would like it, so I'll put some RO/DI water on a slow drip in the morning. Lots of rots-- I did not add any today. Just live phyto.

This had been a recurring theme. Grow rots for a month, use rots for 2 days. After that, they reproduce in the larval tank to such an extent that you never have to add again. add phyto, that's it.

Anyway, despite the high salinity, and pH, too, =8.2!!! it appears I have no ammonia yet. OK.

Only found 2 dead this evening. I hope this is indicative of slowing of the death rate that will go to 0 soon. It was not a huge hatch, but I may get more fish from this one than previous ones that were way bigger.

My experiment to see if more eggs would hatch the second day was not fruitful. About 5 larvae hatched the second night, but only one was swimming in the morning. I transferred it over with the rest of the larvae, and I think I will not attempt to get a second day hatch again. It doesn't pay to be greedy.

Cheers, and good night.

Some of the older 3 week clowns are exploring the pvc for the first time, although it has been in their tank for 2 weeks! Pretty cute. They are on full system flow now. I unplugged their tank heater as they should be fine with the sump heat. I fashioned overflow guards out of gutterguard covered with bridal veil netting. They hang around the bulkhead, but do not seem interested in the lip of the overflow. I think they are going to be OK.

Day 4: still a few dead ones. Tons of rotifers. Started a hatch of brine shrimp. We will see if they like them tomorrow. Their stomachs look really full tonight.

My friend with the spawning fish has just sent me an email with a picture of the tile we are using and an enormous nest of eggs laid yesterday. He counted them. 1061, he says. I have to try this nest. I have to! They will be 5 weeks old when I leave for Italy, so it will be OK!

Meanwhile my own adult clowns decimated a patch of hairy mushrooms, cleaning a spot. Mama clown is huge, and there is a little thing that could be a virgin ovipositor hanging down. I see this thing about every 2 weeks and she always looks big then. Then it goes away and she becomes more normal in size. Never found a nest. I think she just reabsorbs the eggs inside her. I know I just have to wait and keep feeding! Will they ever spawn? Will my trips to pick up eggs ever cease?

It is all good.

Cheers,
Kathy
