Last night was a night for firsts for me

Well I experienced my first leak. The bulk head directly on the sump sprung a leak while I was trying to quite down my pump. Sprang like a little baby boy I was able to get it down to a trickle before I had to call fade and him tell me how to do it. So while I was draining the sump to get some insulation under it to quite it down. I got my first sting from a bristle worm. Didn't get me too bad but I definitely felt it. I'll be less likely to just grab the chaeto like that again. No leaks now and I still have all my fingers so, I guess I chalk it up as a win.

Depending on your budget you might check these out. I have hte bottom link and it has saved me a couple of times. I use them for filling the water change bucket and to listen for leaks. Not a lot of help if you are not home but thats a whole other bunch of fun.

Thanks for the help Faz, but it seems that the links aren't coming up. maybe it's my computer. It seems like a good idea to get one. But I am home and awake maybe 3 hours at most during the week. Are leaks common after all the plumbing is said and done? Will they just spring over time? or does something have to move or shift in order to cause them.

Retry.. User error.

I have only had one "leak" and like you, it started when I was screwing around with the pipes and a bulkhead was not tightened enough. The "floods" I have had have been user error. I was just letting the RO/DI water spigot run to top it off and used the kitchen timer to remind me to turn it off. I had a couple of occasions where someone turned off the beeper and forgot to turn off the water. Once I added the alarm there is no way that you can miss the screaming sound when it hits the desired level. For the main system I have an X-10 alarm sensor set to email me and turn off the valve and pumps if it detects water. I have only used that on a few occasions as I don't trust it 100% yet.

Glad everything is good now....there will be a LONG LIST of firsts and seconds and thirds if you hang with the hobby long enough:lol:

I'm not going anywhere. I'm trying to be as old as capo in the hobby. hopefully the long list of firsts seconds etc will be more good than bad though.

I'm afraid you already have Capo beat as he has never even had water in his tanks yet:lol: He has more empty tanks than Saint Louis has full ones
