I would keep the flow up ie. pumps and filters. Minus the actual floss, media/cartridges. Should the sand start to blow around let it unless it is getting into the impellers on the pumps and such then just slightly turn down said flow until it isn't.
If using used/established substrate. After things have settled I would the take any detritus that will pile up out and stir things up again until there is hardly any left.
As far as the questions keep them coming and use others knowledge / experiences to your benefit, also post other places with more traffic then make your own mind up as two what direction you wanna take with "your" set-up.

Research, and taking things slowly are a giant step towards success!

hey! thanks lol I will pour the questions in once I get the sand and rock in, and start the coral/livestock I feel sorry for you guys when that happens lol but as of the established sand, not yet, tomorrow I am going to get some from aquatic treasures....and rock in about a week,....money issues right now...but all in all you guys-n-gals have it easy for about a week then the questions are ganna be astronomical! lol

im kinda short on money so I have all the tank acc. but only water and sand in it as of this morning, Im buying some live sand form aquatic treasures today and adding it in.....but the filters Im using cleared it up great, its crystal clear!... :) im excited lol

Mine stayed cloudy for almost a week with no rock and pump running, I place the rock in and it cleared up within 2 days.

Salty, On a side note, Take your time buying the rock. Don't just grab "any" ol' piece. Shop around for piece's that look good to you. Remember it's YOUR tank! And you'll be the one starring at it the most. You don't NEED the LR right now. You can save money for a few months if you wanted to your tank will be ok sitting with just water and sand until you can afford the rock. The best LR you can get IMO is another reefer's rock. Look for deals on here. Good luck, have a good time shopping and ask all the qustions you need. :)

sounds good stupid...lol you gotta nother name becides stupid lol i feel weird callin someone stupid,....lol but anyway, I think Im ganna get some from phil, he sounds like a good guy, i dont think he would sell me crappy rock....lol but thanks for the friendly advice....oh and when I got my live sand, i saw these little tube like spongy lookin things....they are about 1/2 inch long and an off purple maybe more of a maroon color....any ideas?....
