Contrary to the name it will probably not. They do a great job keeping the rocks clean of film algae and detritus though, I would not give mine up.
Nutrient reduction and manual removal works. If you have a lot of long stuff what works best for me is starting a siphon from the DT to the sump through a sock. Turn off your powerheads but keep your return running. Pluck it off the rock with your hand and drop it at the intake of the siphon tube. The nice part of this is you are also exporting the nutrients.
This is why I love reef central...I never would of thought of starting a siphon and running it through a filter sock. Such an easy and simple concept I never thought of!
My tank has been up and running for about 4 months now. Cycle went flawless and everything has went pretty smooth.(Thank to reef central and all the info). I have/had a good bit of GHA( About 1.5" to 2" long). My LFS told me to get a lawnmower blenny. So I got a fat little guy that was about 2.5" long and wow did he go to town. He was not in the tank 5 hours and he already started eating on some of it. He is fun to watch and so far my favorite fish.
All I know is I have no algae and my blenny always has a fat belly. Could be the combination of the blenny, 2 turbo snails, 3 trocus snails and 2 emerald crabs.
