Are these suppposed to eat Hair algea? I don't know who it was but I know somebody once said that they go to town on hair algea. Any info on how to rid myself of both hair and bubble algea that would be grand. I know emerald crabs are supposed to help with bubble but I want to know what causes it all and hopefully kill the source of it's food.

Thanks
Josh

Cool, thanks,
So what causes hair algae and bubble algae? I want to Know so I can stop the problem now.

High nitrates, phosphates, chemical imbalance, lack of water changes, poor lighting, chewing gum on a Tuesday... lots of things contribute to it.

You can help rid your self of it by not feeding flake food, do frequent water changes, get your Alkalinity and Calcium up, and dose kalwasser to precipitate the phosphates.

Never buy an animal to do what proper husbandry can accomplish.

Test your water and then you can tell ME what's causing your algae :)

I thought phosphates were typical for hair, no clue on bubble. Evidently emeralds seek out bubble algae, as my tank is clean of bubble algae but I've got hair algae around.

I own a LMB and have hair algae best case senerio it is a 1 once inactive fish. It eats as much algae as a tiny inactive swimmer has to eat to get by.
Funny goofy little fish but I would count it to make a dent in your algae.

I second this. he eats just enough to make me not hate him :)
