I heard this guy sift sand and some say they don't. Other say they mostly eat algae.

Any info? I'm looking for a sand sifter, but I have a little algae I don't mind getting rid of.

They are not a sand sifter. They prefer algae. I've seen a few never switch to anything else and eventually starve.

Well, it seems the guy at my LFS was wrong. :headwally:
Looks like I'm out $20.

Do Watchman Gobies sift sand?

Do Watchman Gobies sift sand?

Technically, no. Although some of the sand-sifting Gobies do get called Watchman Gobies.

Basically, the Valenciennea sp. gobies.

The normal shrimp-pairing gobies (typically what one thinks of as a Watchman) will move sand near their burrow, but won't really sift it.

Diamond goby is probably the king of all sand sifting gobies however if your tank isin't large enough then it will most likely starve.

how big is your tank??

It's a 36g bow front

I'm tired of diatoms settling on my sand bed, and this is a shallow sand bed. Barely an inch. I've just recently added a power head rated for 500 GPH, and a return volume of 250 GPH from my canister, and another 150 GPH from my HOB refugium
