Lawnmower Blenny

When I had my 29 I tried one. Didn't make it. Read somewhere that they needed a mature tank. Want to try one again and my aquarium is over a year old now and very stable and mature. Afraid of quarantining this fish in a pretty sterile tank. Thoughts? Quarantine or add to main?

Usually they're real hardy little buggars , don't think I ever saw a sick one. But yes they need a mature enough tank to have sufficient algae growth to graze on. But you may feed it dried algae ( nori) in qt or ask to buy a piece of live rock that has algae on it for qt.
Most of what's on the rock will die off but it's basically as if you had bought ' cured' rock.

Also if you buy it from lfs and it doesn't sell right away you could visit the fish a few weeks before getting it ... fish that have been in the store more than a month usually don't die....That way lfs sort of does the qt for you!

Of course where I used to work, made the orders, reception, acclimation and qt and would tell good clients if the fish they wanted had been in a tank where there had been a death and to come back in 3 weeks to a month for it.
But now that I am JUST a customer ... I know that some lfs are rotten and I only shop where there are truly passionate knowledgeable people who think like I do.

need to get him to eat dried seaweed. Mine almost died after all the algae was gone. He would literally (and still does) eat sand and poop it out. It took about 2 weeks of having a piece of dried seaweed on a veggie clip down low by the bottom before he finally started eating it. Happy to report he's super fat and happy now months later. Still eats sand though lol..

some will consume prepared foods , while others won't.
if they do not they will perish in a sterile tank. I've had mine now for couple years with barely any algae but he took to prepared foods right away. still constantly tries to graze on rocks and glass.

This guy won't take anything I've offered it. It roams around chomping the rocks and the glass. I don't have hair algae and it still makes a good living.
