lawnmower blenny

I have a 72 reef. A lot of rock. Crushed coral/rubble substrate.

Yellow tang
Bangaii cardinals (2)
Ocellaris clowns (2)
Some peppermint shrimp
Cleaner shrimp (2)
Blue leg hermits and snails and such
Small RTBA

I want a lawnmower blenny.

Any issues? Those that have one â€"œ you like him?

I think you may want to check a bit, I think they feed primarily on hair algae?... I have heard of a pretty good number starving that will not take prepared foods

Some do starve to death so i've heard.. I've kept three (one died ich breakout) one gave to friend and one still have. They all eat prepared foods usually it took a few months for them to take foods. Now mine eats everything i put into the tank. Frozen brine & mysis shrimp flake foods e.t.c At first i kept my tank a little dirty so it would eat algae. When you see lip marks on your tank walls your doing ok. I don't think anyone of them touch hair algae though.

I think they're great. I had one that let me touch him. Unfortunately I lost him (most likely to starvation for the reasons above). I'm trying them again now with two much smaller ones. They seem to be happy eating the algae. Good luck.

Mine pigs out on the Nori I put in for the tang. It also eats the green film on the glass leaving behind "fishy lips" on the glass. I have lots of hair algae, but that seems to be reserved for desperate circumstances. I rarely see him eat that (even though that's what I bought him for).

THey are awesome fish, you'll love it. They have great personality. I've had mine for about a year. He eats absolutly everything I feed. He has a big pot belly. Try spectrum pellets, all my fish love them.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I saw a scooter blenny today. They seem more active than a lawnmower.

Anyone have a scooter? Can you keep several of them? I heard they can be hard to feed.

i have a lawnmower in my frag tank. he munches on algae that forms, and i put some algae sheet tied to a rock with a rubber band for he as well. he loves the algae sheet.

scooter blennies are a type of dragnet. they will feed primarily on pods from the sand. they do seem to accept frozen foods more than other dragnets. just my 2¢

thats mine hes a couch potato, the brain being the couch, he eats every thing i put in for the rest of the fish, mine also changes colors at times,

I've heard scooters are harder to keep as they prefer to eat copepods and don't take too well to prepared foods.
