Leak advice needed

Hey all, looks like I had my first leak last night and I wanted to get your oppinions on what I should do about it. It appears that my sump tank developed a leak just a little below its water line and drained about a gallon of water on to my floor. The main tank is an All Glass 45 tall with standard stand and the sump is a plain old allglass 10g. The carpet around the stand is a little wet, but only about a 1/4" wide area circling the stand is actually wet. If I didnt hear my pump sounding different, I actually wouldnt even have known that there was a problem.

I've removed the sump (PITA), put the heater back uptop, and have a fan blowing on the bottom of the stand. The bottom of the stand itself is allready dry. Should I go through the monumental effort of breaking down the tank to get under the stand to dry every last inch of carpet? Will a gallon of SW on my floor cause it to start rotting and destroy the floor? The tank is on the second floor in my bedroom up against a load bearing wall and its 3 foot length is perpendicular to the main floor joists.

Thanks for your advice in dealing with a mercifully minor spill.

remove the old silicone bead and replace it with a new bead. or get a new sump. I am actually building my sump right now, its really isnt that difficult to seal it up.

yeah I'm not too worried about the sump... just a matter of a little silicone. I was more concerned with cleanup and such... Most of the water is evaporated now, just a little dampness left on the carpet and no bad smells yet. I'm thinkin I'm in the clear :)

What's under the carpet? If it's HW flooring you'd someday think about uncovering, you won't like what you see when you take up the carpet. If the carpet's over a plywood subfloor, you should be OK. There will be a white salt ring in the carpet around the area that got wet.

Heh, well its a plywood floor and its an apartment, not my own house. Been living here for a year now and my landlord's so lazy that I still haven't signed a lease ;). As long as the floor isnt falling down, I'm not worried :D
