That is interesting about the trains, but i wouldn't think they would unless is a fairly subastantial vibration? My house sometimes shudders when city buses or semi trucks go by, I have not noticed tank problems yet(been here 2 years).
It is always a gamble buying used, but it is pretty easy to tell if it is uncared for. You can at least see it filled. I bought a used setup once and I could tell the tank was borderline junk because it has a half-butted silicone patch and the center brace was noticeably white/aged. I went for it because I only really wanted the stand. Id be alot more cautious buying off craigslist than a local fish forum.
