Leaking Pump

Anybody know what could cause a pump to start spraying water? Our Dolphin Ampmaster 3000 (2 years old) has started spraying water from the internal cylinder at the rate of 3 gallons a day (!).

(Just started yesterday)

The pump is otherwise working fine (no loud noise, etc). They don't seem to have a website and I know bugger all about the internal mechanics of pumps other than it might be a seal or something.

Angel,

Who makes the Dolphin pump?

It sounds like it is leaking or spraying water out of the pump volute. I am thinking there is a gasket that is bad and needs to be replaced. If that is the case it is very easy to do.

Can you get a picture or it?

Thanks,
Chris

Mine only lasted 9 months before leaking, I purchased the heavy duty seal from john(It was like $85.00) and no problems since.

Turn that thing off before water get into the coil and ruins the motor or electrifies someone. Make sure to isolate the pump's water supply before cutting power or you may have a worse flood. When running the seals are pulled together by the force of the shaft spinning. No spinning shaft may make the gap bigger and allow even more water to escape. PM sent.

Angela,

Sounds like you have the help and have figured out the problem.

I hope you find/get a seal quickly.

Cheers,
Chris
