leaking tank question

There is a tank for sale locally that has a "slow" leak. (this is how the current owner describes it) He said it has been used as a terrarium for the past couple of years, and put water in it to test it and noticed a slow leak. (leaking at one of the seams) Is this fixable? The tank is an Oceanic 75 gallon. The only reason I am considering this is because it is so cheap. He originally wanted $75 for the tank, stand, and hood with lights, but said he would go cheaper cause of the leak. Should i even bother with this? Sorry for the lack of details, but this is all I know. Also, if it makes any difference, there was SW in it at one point.

Thanks,

You can try and patch the silicone- the worst you'd have to do is remove all the silicone and reseal it. Worth a shot if you even come out of it with a decent stand. Google resealing an aquarium-its pretty easy looking

It's probably repairable as long as it's not cracked. So after taking that into consideration then it really comes down to,"how bad do you want it?"

In my experience repaing a leaky tank can be a lost cause, I am not saying it is a lost cause. I have repaired leaky tanks in the past and have found that you must cut out all the seams in the tank and start over, one reason being is you want it to look good(unless you are a master with silicone), and second is, the leak probably not where it is leaking , meaninig if the leak is in the middle of a vert. seam on the outside, the leak could be starting from the bottom of the vert. seam on the inside. Applying the right amout of silicone is key , to big and it looks gaudy, to small and it is gonna leak.

I got a 40g tank for free locally a few years ago that had the same description. I filled it up at home and sure enough, a slow leak. So I razored all of the silicone in that corner, put on my latex gloves. CLeaned the whole spot with rubbing alcohol. And re-silicone the whole seam, waited a few days, and filled it up, and that worked for me. I think you could do the same thing and it would probably work out for you.
