Leaks

The poll didn't work.

I am wondering what kind of leaks you have had. Are they mostly plumbing leaks? Broken tanks? Design screw-ups? Seal problems?

The reason I ask is I am considering whether or not to put a pan with a drain under my stand.

I am sure others would like to know how to stop leaks as well.

I usually have small drip leaks around the PVC that I do not glue together.

I leave them unglued in case I have to move a section, adjust, etc.

Most of my drips go right back into the sump, so it is not a worry.

I still have my sump and skimmer in a plastic tub, for the whole Murphy's Law scenario.

I had a tank seam failure on a 220. If the seam pulls apart the flow of water will spray 1-2 feet away from the tank, you would have to have a pretty large catch pan for that...

I have had a female plastic fitting split and leak. I caused a few of them when my sump has splashed after I made some minor plumbing changes and it caused a dribble down the back that I didn't notice until the floor was wet. Then I had an anemone plug up an overflow and lost a few gallons, that was the worst. My suspicion is that most leaks are not like yours Steve.

My thought is more like yours Nick, I think I will make a pan to use as the tub.

Does anyone use a leak detection system? They are really easy to make on salt water systems.

The only leaks I've had is from the pvc drain pipe. 1 fitting is not glued in the event I have to move the sump (and I have). I was messing around and bumped the pipe, that was ugle.

I did have an overflow when a hermit made it's way into the overflow and plugged the system. A few stinky gallons on the floor.

My next tank will have a leak detection. I'm not real worried about this one.
