Leaky RO

Hi All

My RO unit has begun to leak from the gasket on the middle filter. I have tried taking it off, cleaning the gasket, and putting it back on snugly, but there is still a slow drip. Any suggestions on what to use or do that won't damage my filters or kill my fish?

Possibly cracked from over tightening. Happened to me, I just used teflon tape on the threads and fixed the leak. Even taking on off a few times, tape still holds without replacing each time.

Or, you could try silicone lube (sometimes called o-ring grease). You may also replace the o-rings if you know the brand of the housing.

Just curious which RO unit you are using? Does the canister have the male threads or the RO unit side?

My Puratek has the male threads on canister, which is the one with leak problems, which teflon taped fixed. However, on my other system and like the BRS reactors, the male threads on the unit side, which i think is more reliable. Replacement o-rings didn't work for me either.

I forget but its an Air Water & Ice or the other big one, Aqua something...

It's standard -- the filter housings thread into lids which are screwed in to a plate that holds, above horizontally, the RO cartridge. I have had to replace o-rings and grease them. No leaks when I do. If the threads get messed up or stripped, or the housing gets a hairline crack (difficult as this is pretty strong pvc like material), then it will leak for sure.

Replacement o-rings are a great start along with teflon tape and o-ring grease. In my case I had to replace the whole canister on 2 of my chambers. Ive had my ro unit well over 10 years and it's been frankenstiened from multiple units to fix it. replacement canisters and parts don't cost much from brs.
