AquaC EV-120 Protein Skimmer with Mag-Drive 5 Pump. This one goes under the tank, can i just run an inlet hose and a outlet hose or is there more to it?

I have used a hang on skimmer once and didnt have very good luck with it. Take a look at this thread, Octupus skimmers have good reviews.

IMO i would purchase an overflow box like this one:

Then you can place a small 30-40 gal tank under your stand and add a skimmer. You might want to try an octopus, many people use them, a great skimmer for the cost. Look at this link.
