Leather coral

Can anyone help me understand why this coral has not extended polyps in over 6 months? I have moved t around to different spots in tank (high flow, low flow, intense light low light, etc)

Need help as I love these things when all the way open.

Sometimes leathers just take a long time to acclimate to your tank and lighting. I would just put it in an area of higher erratic flow and good med to strong lighting and let it sit. From the looks of it, it needs to shed and may stay like it is until it finally does shed. Then it will open up and look amazing.

Good luck and just let it be for as long as it takes.

I've got a toadstool that at one time was Fantastic and then it just started dying off. Well after a year it was a fraction of it's former beautiful self and now finally it's starting to grow back again.

Also do make sure you run carbon with having a mixed tank or any tank with leathers. The chemical warfare that happens you can't measure but it's there and the carbon helps get rid of it.

Thanks for the input....to your point, it has receded from its original size.

Does putting a low flow powerhead like 256 on it directly the key?

You don't want to point a power head directly at it. You almost want it to be in the middle where two power heads converge. Leather corals like this really appreciate that strong chaotic flow. They don't like to be fiddled with either, so like mentioned above just find a spot where both the lighting & flow will be enough and leave it alone. GL.

I never put flow directly on the corals, I let it bounce off of the glass before hitting the corals. If you have two or three power heads pointing at each other per se, there will be an area of the tank where they converge a their strongest point and it become erratic. This is where I want my corals that like lots of flow.

No this toadstool got something where it got hard and started crumbling kind of deteriorating away. I did a dip in Revive and it seems to be starting to come back now. At one time this toadstool was about a 6" diameter or so crown and the stalk was about 8" long and a diameter of over 2" It was a beautiful toadstool. It's still a fraction of that now but is improving

for one thing, most leathers do not like to be touched or moved. you need to leave it alone. devils hands like good flow and good light.
