Leather dying base black?

I have leather attached to a rock were it's attached it's turning black, I'm thinking it's dying. Should I cut it off the rock?

It sounds like Necrosis. Separating the coral from that rotting base would definitely be a good idea.

Can you get a picture of it?

Pic hard to see but the black spot at the base

hard to tell ...but if it is infected it wouldn't hurt to cut it off fresh and reattach to a new pc of rock...
